Liberation from language: a deep experience through flowers and the heart.
Ikebana, a part of Japanese culture, is one of the inherited arts that one rarely has the chance to encounter in recent years. Western flower design is arranged with a unified form viewable from any angle in three dimensions. In ikebana, by contrast, the direction of viewing is defined as the front.
In this work, while observing ikebana's three-dimensional structure and the school's way of arranging, we allow visitors to re-experience the dialogue with plants—through ikebana and shosa—in VR space, crafting an experience design that poses questions from an unreal, unbalanced atmosphere expressible only digitally.
Presented under the supervision of the Sogetsu School, this work was released at SXSW 2018 and received acclaim both in Japan and abroad. It was designated as content for METI's Osaka Expo bid and won the top prize at the ACER awards. As a form of cultural experience during Stay Home, it found value as hospitality art through the re-conversion of culture.
